Barry Skidmore made a pact with his son three years ago to see the ocean.

Christopher Skidmore wanted it to be something they experienced together.
The father-son duo returned June 24 from a two-week vacation in Canada. “This was the year we did it,” said Barry, of Elroy. “Thank God we made it there.”  (more)

Back on its footings in downtown La Crosse, the controversial Ten Commandments monument now is surrounded by not one but two fences and two large signs.

The city of La Crosse erected a second fence around the monument Wednesday and hung large signs disclaiming city endorsement of the commandments.  (more)
